Around 200 mourners packed into Redding Parish Church outside Falkirk to say a proper farewell to the 15-year-old girl who vanished from their lives so suddenly in 1991.
The Rev Geoff Smart, who has regularly led prayers on behalf of Vicky at the church, spoke positively of her as a bubbly, fun-loving girl who liked horseriding and was particularly fond of her cousin's Shetland pony. 'We know now that all these years Vicky was safely in God's loving care." The minister said comfort should be sought from the fact that Vicky had been in a safe place since the day she died. He added, "Vicky was a much-loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, half-sister, and niece, and Vicky has been sorely missed by them all and the rest of her family and friends over these years since Vicky went missing". Vicky was last seen at a bus stop in Bathgate eating a bag of chips in February 1991 and her disappearance triggered one of the biggest missing persons inquiries in British history. Her body was discovered on November 12, 2007, buried under a sandpit in the back garden of a home in Margate, Kent.

Peter Britton Tobin (born 27 August 1946) is a convicted Scottish serial killer and sex offender who is currently serving three sentences of life imprisonment with a whole life order at HM Prison Edinburgh for three murders committed between 1991 and 2006 including the murder of Vicky Hamilton age 15

Article below By Auslan Cramb, Scottish Correspondent 5:02PM GMT 01 Dec 2008A jury of 12 women and three men was urged to close the file on the disappearance of the 15-year-old girl in 1991 by finding Peter Tobin guilty of her abduction and murder. She was last seen in Bathgate on a snowy February night more than 17 years ago while making her way home to Redding near Falkirk after spending the weekend with her sister .But Frank Mulholland QC, the solicitor general, prosecuting, told the High Court in Dundee that it was clear that she never caught her bus. In his closing speech, he said: She did not make it home to her mothers that night. She didn't see her favourite TV programme and, as described by her sister, so began the 17-year nightmare of not knowing what happened to Vicky.

The Crown case is that Peter Tobin is the person responsible for this nightmare. Mr Mulholland added: To abduct, drug, sexually assault and murder a 15-year-old girl who was doing nothing more than trying to get home to her mothers is a crime of almost unspeakable horror. It is a barbaric act. The horror of the fate that befell Vicky Hamilton cannot be overstated. I have searched long and hard in my lexicon to find words which can properly describe what happened to this poor girl. The best I can do is to describe it as evil. Tobin, 62, denies abducting, sexually assaulting and murdering Vicky in February, 1991. He also denies cutting up her body and burying her body parts. Her remains were found buried in the garden of a house in Margate, Kent, last November.

He claims he was hundreds of miles away in the south of England when the schoolgirl went missing. Mr Mulholland reminded the jury that Vicky's skin was said to have been found on a knife in the loft of Tobins former home in Bathgate. This was a damning piece of evidence that the perpetrator of these evil acts is Peter Tobin, he added. The trial has also heard that DNA found on Vicky's purse matched that of Tobins son Daniel, who was three years old at the time.

How did Peter Tobin get the purse? asked Mr Mulholland. The answer is obvious. He took it from Vicky when he murdered her. Yet another damning piece of evidence against him and it all fits together. Mr Mulholland said that after Vicky vanished police kept the file open and looked at it again and again and again. He told the jury: Ladies and gentlemen, I invite you to finally close this file. It has been proved beyond reasonable doubt that this man, Peter Tobin, murdered Vicky Hamilton.
