Brewer is listed among the Prisoners of War at Point Lookout, Maryland and was transferred on August 3, 1864 to Elmira, New York. He signed an Oath of Allegiance to the United States at Elmira, New York on June 21, 1865 and was released on that date. He gave his place of residence as Montgomery, Alabama.
