Theron L. Smith, the son of Erwin and Mae (Loomis) Smith, was born in Miller, Nebraska, on January 7, 1906, and died at his home in Giltner, Nebraska, on November 10, 1993, at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 3 days.
He grew up in western Nebraska, where he received his education and taught school, and later graduated from Kearney State College.
On April 12, 1936, he was united in marriage to Mabel Barton, at Chappell, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on May 30, 1987. After their marriage they moved to Giltner, where he taught High School in the 1940's, and ran a grocery store until 1977. He was a grave digger at the Giltner Cemeteries for many years.
Theron was a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church, and belonged to the Giltner Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 2 brothers, Seaton and Julius.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his son, Ross and his wife Janice of Palm Harbor, Florida; one brother Charles of Lincoln; 2 sisters, Alice Harrison and Olive Porter, both of Salt Lake City, Utah; 3 grandsons, Randall, Kevin, and Scott, and 3 great grandchildren, Jordan, LaShae, and Tyler.
