Daughter of James Baker Thistle and Mary Ellen Soper. Born at the Thistle Farm on land that is now New Martinsville, WV. Married to William Lloyd West on 18 Oct 1905. He was born in 1849 and died 08 Aug 1918. Ida committed suicide using gas from her oven, apparently due to her worsening poor health. She was losing her vision, among other things.

IDA MAY THISTLE was born on the farm on August 6, 1865. Her father died in 1870 and four years later at the age of about nine years she was taken to live with her aunt, Antoinette (Soper) O'Brien (Aunt Nettie"), in New York City. There she grew up and spent her life. Her Aunt Nettie died on February 4, 1880. On October 18, 1905, she married William Lloyd West of Cleveland, Ohio. He was a nephew of Nicholson P. O'Brien, Aunt Nettie's husband. William was born on July 4, 1849, and died on April 8, 1918. Ida died on August 24, 1943 and was buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery in New York City. They left no issue.

WEST--Ida M., on Tuesday, Aug. 24,1943, at her residence, 420 Clinton Av.. Brooklyn, wife of the late William L. West, of Cleveland, Ohio. She was interred in the family plot in Cypress Hills Cemetery Aug. 27. At the written request of the deceased there were no funeral services and no publication of death until the day after interment.
