Professional Boxer. Born Luigi D'Ambrosio, he was nicknamed the "Herkimer Hurricane" for his hometown in New York. He was twice Lightweight Boxing Champion of the World between 1936 and 1940. In 102 fights, Ambers won 88, 29 by knockouts; lost 8, and had 6 draws. He was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1992.
