Robert F. Buschmann, 89, died Sunday evening, January 6, 2008 after a one-week stay at Sheboygan Progressive Health Care Center.

Robert was born October 23, 1918 in Sheboygan to Albert and Alice (Janssen) Buschmann. He attended Jefferson Elementary School and was a graduate of Sheboygan High School, Class of 1936. He served his country in the Wisconsin National Guard and during WW II he served in the US Army & Cavalry. He was honorably discharged with a US Army commendation for extended service.

He was formerly married to Helen Meyer and the couple was well known in the area for their dance exposition, especially the jitterbug.

For a number of years Bob worked as an agent for the New York Life Insurance Co and at the Kohler Co before moving to New York in 1950.

On August 18, 1952 Bob was united in marriage to Carol Hagedorn. They lived on Long Island where he owned and operated The White Rooster, a cocktail lounge and restaurant while Carol sang with the Chordettes.

He and Carol returned to Sheboygan in 1969 where they owned and operated Toro's Sporting Goods with Bob's son, Tory. Later they specialized in selling skis and trophies and awards with daughter, Janet. They sponsored many sporting teams over the years and were inducted into the Sheboygan Softball Association Hall of Fame. The trophy store is still owned and operated by the grandchildren, Robert and Kristin.

Bob enjoyed athletics his entire life and excelled in many sports. He was a member of the Golden Glove Association and played in many sport leagues including bowling, golfing, shooting pool, playing baseball, and pitching horseshoes. He played lots of cards, but was especially proud of having been dealt a perfect hand in cribbage.

In later years he took up oil painting and gardening, turning their home into a veritable greenhouse. He was able to continue living at home and enjoy a great quality of life due in large part to the tender, loving care of his wife, Carol.

Bob was a member of First United Lutheran Church and the American Legion Prescott Bayens Post #83.

In addition to his loving wife, Carol, he is survived by three children, Jill Drews, Tory (Barbara) Buschmann, and Janet (David) Sly, all of Sheboygan; eight grandchildren, Bobbi Lynn (Dewey) Illig, Lance Drews, Barry Drews, Robert A. Buschmann, Kristin Dewar, Jill (Scott) Grunert, Liz (Corey) Rank, and Michael Grunow; five step-grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Schmidt, Yvonne Ritmiller, Angel Van Schyndel, Kristian (Lori) Ritmiller, and Jessica (Dave) Tenpas; great and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Bleyer and Alice Spielvogel, both formerly of the Chordettes; and his grandson-in-law, Dale Dewar.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Ballhorn Chapels. Rev. Todd Smith, Pastor of First United Lutheran Church, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Bob had a great passion for life, and, along with his wife, Carol, lived it to the fullest. Their enduring devotion to one another will live in our memories forever.
