Elizabeth Rebecca Ann "Lizzie" Prince Fowler was born in December of 1823 in Horry County, South Carolina, the daughter of Nicolas Prince and Cynthia (maiden name unknown) Prince. Her stepmother was Sarah (maiden name unknown) Prince. She married Amos Fowler, and they became the parents of William Lyte Fowler, Leanna Leah Fowler Soles, Charlotte "Lottie" Fowler Wilson, Samuel Langstrom Camai Fowler, and Demaris Perry Ann Fowler Soles. (Elizabeth has often been misidentified as the wife of John Reynolds Sarvis, a woman who was in reality Elizabeth Ruth "Ruthie" Hardee Sarvis.. There are many reasons for this confusion including the facts that both John's and Amos' wives' first name was Elizabeth, both Elizabeths had similar birth and death dates, both were from Horry County, and both Elizabeths had daughters of approximately the same age named Charlotte.)

Elizabeth was of French Huguenot and English descent. It was her great-great-great-grandfather Daniel Horry (part of the family for whom Horry County is named) who came from Charenton, Cher, France and great-great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Fanton Garnier Horry who came from Ile de Re, Charente-Maritime, France to South Carolina. Elizabeth Horry's ancestors (including her grandparents) were survivors of the 14-month-long Siege of La Rochelle in 1627-28 by the Catholic forces of King Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu. During the siege more than 80% of the predominately Protestant Huguenot population died of wounds, disease, and starvation.

Elizabeth died on March 6, 1900 in Horry County. She and her husband are probably buried in Horry County in unmarked graves in Oak Dale Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery where some of their children are buried.

Thanks so much to descendant Kay Evans and "Anonymous" for so much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions. I hope one of Elizabeth's descendants will add her photo to this site.
