Francis was the third of four children of Gordon Davidson Reid and Mary Masterson Reid. He was named for his mother's brother, Francis Patrick Masterson, Sr. His confirmation name was also Patrick, and some of his nieces and nephews called him Uncle Framps.
He married Verga Bertha Anderson in 1932, and they had five sons. Their middle son Paul is deceased.
Francis resided in Lambertville as a child. He and his wife began farming in Pittstown, Hunterdon Co., then moved to a dairy farm in Brandy Station and lived and worked there for the rest of their lives.
He was the grandfather of 10 and the great-grandfather of 13 as of early 2008.
