Charles was the eldest of eight children of eight children of Frank Norman Shoudt and Anna Mariah 'Rita' Burroughs. He grew up in Upper Black Eddy and Trenton, Mercer Co., New Jersey.

Charles was forced to curtail his education in order to help provide for his younger brothers and sisters. He was employed by the Riegel Paper Corporation across the Delaware River in Milford, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey from the time he was a teenager until his retirement.

He met Amy Margaret Moninghoff at Nate's Dance Hall in Upper Black Eddy, where his father was calling the squares. They married in Haycock Twp., Bucks Co. in 1934. It was a good marriage that lasted for 43 years.

Charles resided in Easton, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania; Upper Black Eddy; and Riegelsville, Bucks Co. early in his married life. He later settled in Alpha, Warren Co.

He was a very good baseball player in his youth. He loved drinking beer, and he had a fun sense of humor. He always enjoyed getting together with his family and having a good time.

Charles was the father of six children. He was also the grandfather of 19 grandchildren and the great-grandfather of 23 as of late 2007. His grandson, Gary Charles Shoudt, died in 1974.

He suffered a lot of medical problems due to diabetes towards the end of his life.
