Rock Musician. He was the main songwriting force of the post-punk band The Sound (1978 to 1987). The Sound's music was said to be full of passion and raw emotion that was largely his responsibility. Previously he was a member of the punk rock trio The Outsiders. After The Sound broke up he continued writing music for a solo career creating over seven full-length albums. His solo career was said to display pure and profound qualities creating a reportedly loyal cult following similar to The Sound's. Other bands he preformed with include playing guitar with the Honolulu Mountain Daffodils (under the alias of Joachim Pimento) and White Rose Transmission, whose album "700 Miles of Desert" was his last completed work. Active as a music producer he produced bands such as Felt, The Prudes, Into Paradise, and Red Harvest to name a few. It is said that his work whether solo or with other musicians displayed "unflinching honesty and sensitivity." His last unfinished project was a solo album entitled "Harmony and Destruction." Close to the end of The Sound's career he had started to show signs of depression. In 1986 he was diagnosed with schizoid affective disorder, causing him to hear voices and lose touch with reality. The Friday before his death he started showing signs of depression and agitation. He returned home from the recording studio to rest and planned to finish the album the following Monday. After reportedly visiting a former girlfriend, he was found confused and hearing voices at a restaurant in Kennington South London, England and was returned home by police. Against the wishes of his elderly parents, he refused medical treatment because he wanted to work on his nearly completed album. Later that morning, he committed suicide at the Wimbledon tube station by throwing himself in front of a train. He was 41. Cause of death: Suicide.
