Actor. He was born Leo Robert Weismantel on October 19, 1926, while other sources say 1924. He is best remembered for playing the role of Lieutenant Zimmerman in the 1949 Oscar-winning film, "Twelve O'Clock High". A veteran of World War II, Weismantel served in the United States Army before changing his name to Lee MacGregor and embarking on a film career in Hollywood. After his arrival in Hollywood in 1947 he was signed to a contract with 20th Century-Fox and RKO to play character roles including military and western figures. He made his debut in that same year in the film, "Mother Wore Tights", and went onto appear in over 24 other films. His other credits include, "Gentleman's Agreement" (1947), "You Were Meant For Me" (1948), "The Luck Of The Irish" (1948), "Slattery's Hurricane" (1949), "Father Was A Fullback" (1949), "When Willie Comes Marching Home" (1950), "Three Come Home" (1950), "Where The Sidewalk Ends" (1950), "Two Flags West" (1950), "Hot Lead" (1951), "The Half Breed" (1952), "Toughest Man In Arizona" (1952), and his last role, "Above And Beyond" (1952). He retired from acting in 1952 and moved to El Paso, Texas. He passed away there in 1961 at the young age of 36, and was buried with full military honors at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
