Eliza Englert Miller Riley of Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia was born June 10, 1853 in Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina to German immigrants William Englert and Georgiana (maiden name unknown) Englert. Her father ran a tavern. She had three older siblings including her sister, Johannah Englert.

Eliza married Edward Miller about 1871, and he passed away about 1876. She and Edward had two daughters born in Augusta, Romana H. Miller Riley and Valesca ("Vallie") Adeline Miller Riley Gallaway,

Eliza married George M. D. Riley about 1878, and they had six children: Georgia Whitman Riley, Robert Fleming Riley, twins Henry Stephen Riley and William Duncan Riley, Frances Riley Caldwell, and Thomas Carleton Riley. The family settled in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia. They were Presbyterians.

Eliza was 84 when she died March 14, 1938 in Savannah. She is buried next to her second husband in the Riley family plot in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah. I hope one of her descendants will add her photo to this site. Where is her first husband buried?
