Anchorage resident Ivan William Yancey, 49, an engineering foreman, died Oct. 18 of a heart attack in Seattle. A funeral was held Oct. 23 in Magna, Utah. A service was also held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Byron Walther officiating.

Mr. Yancey was born Aug. 2, 1941, in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Cyprus High School in Magna. In 1961, he was called as a full-time missionary to the Central States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Yancey moved to Alaska in 1965 and began working for Anchorage Telephone Utility in 1966. He initially worked as a plant engineer and for the last seven years had been an engineering foreman. He enjoyed fishing with his friends, taking fish charters out of Seward and the outdoors. According to his family, he had a real zest for life and demonstrated a real love for his family and children. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his friends, talking and sharing his thoughts with them. Mr. Yancey was a member of several engineering associations. He was an active member of the Stardusters Square Dance Club and a member of the G & G Round Dance Club.

He is survived by his wife, Arla of Anchorage; his sons, Steven and Kevin, of Anchorage; his daughter, Janna of West Palm Beach, Fla.; his brothers, David of Fresno, Calif., and Marvin of Kearns, Utah; his sisters, Sharon Burton of Perris, Calif., Paula Conover of Provo, Utah, and Ann Kenner of Magna; 14 nephews; and 15 nieces. The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the 12th Ward Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, care of Bishop Byron Walther, 3412 Grissom Circle, Anchorage 99517. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Tucson, Ariz. Arrangements were by Peel's Mortuary in Magna.
