Russian Aristocracy. She was from a tiny village called Zabomzhevka. It is alleged that she traveled to Venice for carnival in pursuit of unrequited love and unsatisfied in her quest committed suicide with laudanum while in her room at the Danieli hotel. She was interred at the Cimitero di San Michele in Venice beneath a monument created by sculptor Enrico Butti who depicted her as she was found after her death.
