Samuel PHELPS [W21 in Phelps Family in America by Phelps & Servin, Vol 1.] was the son of William PHELPS and his first wife Mary UNKNOWN. He was baptized on 5 Aug 1621 (note, this is NOT his birth date, his actual birth date is unknown).

The bapt. record labeled 5 Aug 1621 Crewkerne, the Auguste 1621 vital record says "Samuell the son of William Phelps was baptized the v th day of Auguste";

Samuel sailed to New England with his father William PHELPS and step-mother Anne DOVER on Mary and John in 1630. He lived in Dorchester, MA for five years before moving to Windsor, CT with his father.

Samuel married Sarah GRISWOLD on 10 Nov 1650 Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Edward GRISWOLD and Margaret (surname UNKNOWN).

They had nine children, the first 3 were born in Windsor, and the rest were born in Poquonock, Hartford Co., CT which is a bit further north of Windsor.

Samuel's father Mr. William Phelps lived on East Street, Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. His brother William's house next door is still standing today, but their father's house was razed, and the land was leveled and shoved back. The original burials behind the house were disleveled. This area is now Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
