Mabel Alice Gray was born in Belmont Townshop, Woodson, Kansas her parents were Charles Louis and Laura Belle (Mullenix) Gray. Her mom past away when she was 12 from Black Tongue Typhoid while pregnant and at 13 she went to Grandma Steel's were she stayed to age 17 and work for her board and room. She then went back to help her dad with her brothers and they moved to Witchita, Sedgwick, Kansas. She married Guy Harry Harris on June 29, 1991 in Iola, Allen, Kansas and then move to Collinsville, Roger, Oklahoma were they had built a house to live in. They had five children two boys and three girls. In 1929 her husband died and she was left to raise five children. She the worked at a garment factory, ran a small cafe, and took in boards. In 1937 she and her daughter Dorothy moved to California. She lived with Dorothy most of the time til her death. She past away 7 Feb 1992, in Riverside, Riverside, California two months short of her 100 Birthday. She was well loved by her family who all called her Mamo. Her ashes are with family in Fayetteville, Washington, Arkansas.
