Professional Football Player. Born Jerome Paul Groom in Des Moines, Iowa. He played at the defensive tackle, center and linebacker positions for five seasons (1951 to 1955) in the National Football League with the Chicago Cardinals. During his collegiate years at the University of Notre Dame, Groom achieved All-American status and was a member of the 1949 National College Football Championship Team. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1994. He was chosen by the Cardinals in the 1st round of the 1951 NFL Draft, and appeared in 58 career games achieving Pro Bowl status in 1954.
