Governor of Bermuda. He was appointed Knight Commander of Saint Michael and Saint George and was the recipient of the title of Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. For acts of gallantry against the enemy on land he was awarded the Military Cross. He graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1936 and was commissioned into the Welsh Guard. Upon entering politics he was elected as a Conservative Member of Parliament in 1954. He later served as Minister of State at the Home Office, a seat which he resigned in 1972 to become Governor of Bermuda. Following a dinner party, he and his aide-de-camp were walking his Great Dane outside the Government House when they were ambushed and all three were killed. Two people were arrested for the crime and one of them confessed. He was also found guilty of murdering the police commissioner six months prior to the governor and a store owner and his bookkeeper one month after. The other defendant was acquitted for murdering the governor and found guilty of the store owner and bookkeeper murder. Both were hanged on December 2, 1977 and three days of rioting followed.
