My beautiful great-grandmother, whose time was all too brief.

Daughter of Jesse Portman and Arena Fielder Drew and wife of Charles Lee Davis. Mother of Edith Seatto (Atto), Leo Theophilus (Lee), Cleo Nanabelle (Nan), Elijah Portman (Port), Irena Abigail (Abby), Nellie Marie, Mary Oveda (Bonnie), & Nelva Imogene (June). Pregnant with her ninth child, she contracted the Spanish Flu and passed away at the age of 39. She was survived by her husband and seven of her children. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Nellie.

Her grave is unmarked.

This is a story Aunt Nan used to tell:

Viola married Charles Davis on 19 Sep 1900. Upon procuring their marriage license, they set out for the preacher's house. Along the way, they encountered the preacher, who was headed into town. They stopped their buggies in the middle of the road and were married on the spot. The preacher then continued on his way to town.
