Army Staff Sgt. Jeffery L. Hartley, 25, of Hempstead, Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Ga.; died April 8 in Kharguliah, Iraq, of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. He was honored with more than 20 awards from the Army, including a bronze star and purple heart. He died in Kharguliah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device at age 25. He is preceded in death by brother, Jeremy Hartley; and is survived by his parents; brother, David Wayne Hartley; sisters, Lisa Ann Willever and husband Chris, and Kaylie Hartley; and numerous other family members and friends.
