Harold D. Bresett Sr., 88, formerly of Hammond, died Thursday at Kinney Nursing Home, Gouverneur.
Mr. Bresett was a mechanic for O'Leary Machinery Sales, the town of Macomb and the state Department of Transportation, before taking up farming on Cooper Road in the early 1940s. He worked for the Gouverneur school system as a bus driver and a contractor for 25 years before retiring from the school system and shortly thereafter retired from farming.
Born Aug. 3, 1914, in Rossie, son of Leon J. and Lulu Simons Bresett , he attended school in the Macomb area.
He married Mary Ruth Macauley on Sept. 7, 1940, at Heuvelton Methodist parsonage with the Rev. Robert Belling officiating. She died Oct. 21, 1984.
Mr. Bresett stayed active on the farm into his 80s, enjoyed mechanical work, collected and restored antique tractors and engines and participated in area antique engine shows. He was an active member of Brasie Corners Church and Pierces Corners Methodist Church for many years and was a member of Macomb Grange for 60 years.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Hammond; a daughter, Portland, Conn.; a sister, Macomb, five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur, with the Rev. James Warrington officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Lake Cemetery.
