Max Eldo Barner was the only child of Samuel Michael Barner and Gertrude Hunt. Max attended Valley Home School and graduated from Belle Plaine High School. Max served in the U.S.Air Force in World War II and lost his life when his plane went down over Italy in 1944. He was inducted in Kansas, probably, Sumner, County, as that was the county of residence. Date of death was 11 November 1944, Florence, Toscano, Italy. Burial at Florence American Cemetery. Plot B. Row 4. Grave 43. He received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Title: Staff Sergeant. U.S. Air Force. Service I.D.: 37538822. Division: 342nd Bomber Squadron, 97th Bomber Group, Heavy.
