Jazz Musician, Composer. He was a pianist and leader of the musical group The Bob Florence Limited Edition. He began playing classical piano at an early age and was later educated at Los Angeles City College. He began his career during the mid-1950s when he joined bandleader Alvino Ray's group. A few years later he arranged for Harry James. In 1961, he would gain wide acclaim for his arrangement of the Hoagy Carmichael score "Up a Lazy River" which became a big hit for bandleader Si Zentner. During the 1960s, Florence contributed on such personalities television shows as Red Skelton, Dean Martin and Andy Williams. He also worked with singers Julie Andrews and Vikki Carr. In 2000, he received a Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Performance with "Serendipity 18."
