Fought in the American Revolutionary War in Light Horse Harry Lee's Legion of the Continental Army.

Son of John ALEXANDER Sr. and Sarah MARTIN. He married Lucy NUNN abt 1769 in VA. They moved with their family to Cumberland County, KY in 1805.

John and Lucy had 11 children: Thomas ALEXANDER, John Martin ALEXANDER Sr., Sarah C. BARTON, Ingram ALEXANDER, Elizabeth SMITH, Robert M. ALEXANDER, Obedience "Biddy" GEARHART, Joseph ALEXANDER, Reuben Renfru ALEXANDER, Phillip ALEXANDER, and Susanna W. (HALL) PORTER.

Note that his two headstones are side-by-side-- darker one to the right, lighter one with service info. in the middle, and Lucy (NUNN) ALEXANDER buried on the left.
