"News has been received from Columbus, GA., of the death there this morning, after a short illness, of Lucius Henry Chappell, who was a brother of the Late Mrs. James H. Toomer, of Portsmouth.
Mrs. Chappell was 75 years of age. He was the youngest son of Absalom Harris and Loretto Lamar Chappell, and since boyhood had lived in Columbus. He was widely known in Georgia and in his city always took an active part in affairs. For several terms he was mayor of Columbus. He was a member of the Masonic and other fraternal organizations and a communicant and vestryman of the Episcopal Church.
Mr. Chappell is survived by his widow , Mrs. Cynthia Hart Chappell, and two sons, four daughters and two grandchildren. His nephew, James H. Toomer, Jr., and niece, Miss Loretto Toomer, of Portsmouth, have left for Columbus to attend the funeral, which will take place tomorrow."
