John P. Ritter died at his home in Hedrick Friday, December 31, following a lingering illness. The funeral was held Sunday at the Hedrick Baptist church, and interment was made in the Abel Cemetery.
Mr. Ritter was born in Keokuk county, Iowa, November 15, 1858 and died at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 16 days. He was married to Cornelia Bennett (sic Camelia M. Bennett) on October 13, 1885, and to this union were born two children, Franklin A and Elsie Mary. Mrs. Ritter died May 4, 1889.
Mr. Ritter was again married on October 25, 1893, to Harriet Ruggles. To this union were born two children Virgil Leland and Lonnie, the latter dying in infancy.
He is survived by his wife and three living children, Frank A, of Everett Washington; Mrs. Arthur Archer and Virgil L., both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; also two stepchildren, O. L. Ruggles, of Ames and Mrs. Roy Hawk, of Hedrick; two grandchildren and 11 step-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
