87, of Capwell Avenue, a longtime employee and fundraiser at Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick, before she retired, died Wednesday at Kent Hospital. She was the wife of the Late John J. Breene. Born n Boston, a duaghter of the late John Albro Sr. and Emily (Beattie) Albro she live in Coventry for 70 years. Mrs. Breene had an illustrious career at Kent, working as director of volunteers, director of public relations, and director of personel. She assisted in fundraising for the new hospital, which opened in 1951. When the hospital auxiliary was formed, one of its first projects was a gift shop, which Mrs. Breene managed until 1960. She was a member of the Home Care Conference Committee, a charter member of the auxiliary, and a member of its executive board, the board of incorporators, and annual Appeals Committee. With artist Allan Halladay she helped design the official hospital seat. She was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Church, Scituate. She had been a member of Quidnick Baptist Church, where she was the first woman elected to its Board of Deacons, its first woman president, and she chaired a renovation program. She was a 4-H Club member and leader, a delegate to the National 4-H conference in Washington, DC in 1932, and to the 25th anniversary celebration in 1957.She was the chairwoman of the Kent County Infantile Paralysis Chapter of the March of Dimes campaign during the last major outbreak of polio in Kent County. She had been involved in civilian training programs during World War II, and was a lieutenant in the former Drivers Corps. She was secretary-treasurer for several years at Mishnock Lace, West Greenwhich, which was owned by her husband. She leaves a daughter, Emily Jones, and a son, David Breene, both of Coventry; two sisters, Mary Curls of Inverness, FL and Susan Fontaine of West Greenwich; a brother Waite Albro of Phillips, ME; 10 grandchildren, including Senator Kevin Breene (R) and 17 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the Jonathan Breene and the late Kenneth Breene, and sister of the late Mildred Albro and John I. Albro, Jr. The funeral will be held Sunday at noon in Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist church, Seven Mile Road, Scituate. Burial will be in Mapleroot Cemetery, Coventry.
