Grandfather built a log cabin outside of Dale IL. about 1895. He and Grandmother,Anna Elizabeth Lemay (b,1877/1933) lived there in the early years of their marriage (m.Aug 25, 1895.) They lost three young children there before my father was born, Martha Ann 1897/1898, Carrie 1898/1899. Frances Marion 1900/1902. Grandfather , Grandmother and the three children are buried at Walpole Cemetery. Dale IL.
Grandfather was a kind and gentle man who's favorite song was Wayfaring Stranger.I heard him sing it in Church once.
It was very moving.
My grandparents had three more son's who survived, Edward Leland b 1903/1989, Cleatis Stanley b.1907/1963 and Elzie Thomas b.1912/1954.
Grandfather then moved his family to Mount Vernon Illinois because the timber industry around Dale IL. was coming to a close. He wanted to get work at the new Railroad Car Manufacturing Plant in Mount Vernon.
Around the middle of April 1958 he checked himself into the hospital. My father asked the Doctor what was wrong with him and the Doctor said: "Nothing, he just came here to die".......

Such was his end, a calm release,
not clinging to his mortal clod,
He closed his eyes and stood in peace,
before a smiling GOD. (unknown)
