TAYLORSVILLE -- Thomas Lynn Elder, 73, of 603 Country Road, Taylorsville went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Presbyterian Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Alexander County December 10, 1933 son of the late William C. and Blanche Burgess Elder. He retired from Duke Power after 37 years of service in the Transmission Lines Department in Charlotte and was a member of Carsons Chapel United Methodist Church. He had many hobbies but none so close to his heart than gardening and raising crops. He genuinely was outgoing and never met a stranger. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Stewart and Rachel Simmons and by two brothers, Jack Elder and Buford Elder. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Jolly Elder, of the home; a son, Lynn E. Elder and wife, Melissa, of Charlotte; a stepson, J. Keith Rodgers of Mooresville; five sisters, Jayne Goble and Connie Bryant both of Taylorsville, Lena Ellis of Eden, Alice Buck of Jacksonville, Florida and Ann Swain of Winston-Salem; three brothers, John C. Elder and Richard Elder both of Taylorsville and David Elder of Hickory; five grandsons, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Carsons Chapel United Methodist Church by the Revs. Elbert Goble and Tony Daniels. Burial will be in the Elder Family Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at Adams Funeral Home 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
