Roman Catholic Cardinal. The son of Counts Federico and Carlotta Callori di Vignale, among the first and most munificent benefactors of Saint John Bosco Federico received his education at the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, being ordained priest on December 16, 1917 in Rome. Named Privy Chamberlain Participant of Holiness on July 6, 1919, he was reappointed on February 7, 1922 and again on March 3, 1939. Canon of the Chapter of the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica as of June 3, 1935, he was named Domestic Prelate of His Holiness on May 28, 1935, Protonotary Apostolic on June 6, 1935, Pro-Master of the Papal Chamber on December 20, 1950, Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on January 12, 1953 and Majordomo of the Sacred Apostolic Palace on October 29, 1958. Elected archbishop of the titular see of Maiuca by Pope Paul VI on February 15, 1965, he received his episcopal consecration on six days later at the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica from Cardinal Eugène Tisserant. The following day, he was created cardinal deacon by the named Pontiff. It was only just that as deaconry, he received that of San Giovanni Bosco in via Tuscolana, established as titular church for the occasion. It is worth mentioning that like his parents, he himself held strong ties with the Salesians, having had as godfather on his confirmation, Blessed Michele Rua SDB., the first Rector Major of the Salesians. Resigning from his posts on the same day, the Majordomo died after a lengthy illness on August 10, 1971 at Vatican City, having served four Pontiffs across a career that spanned forty six years. His remains lie buried inside the chapel tomb of his family in Vignale Monferrato.
