Aurelia Scogin, musician, teacher, and composer, died peacefully Tuesday, June 10, 2008.
Aurelia Tribble Scogin was born September 20, 1923 in Austin to William Hardie and Pauline Morgan Tribble. She attended Corpus Christi High School and graduated with honors from Texas A&I with bachelor and master degrees in music. Aurelia, a timpanist, and husband John, a trumpet player, were founding member/performers of the Corpus Christi Symphony. She began her teaching career at Driscoll and Northside Junior High Schools then was choir director extraordinaire at W.B. Ray High School for 31 years and at First United Methodist Church for 10 years.
"Scog" was an inspiration to thousands of musicians for more than 60 years. She will be dearly missed, yet her music will live on.
Aurelia is survived by daughter Patty Scogin and her husband Bill Sorensen of Round Rock and their two daughters Laura and Amy; son Bill and wife Becky Scogin of Corpus Christi, Texas and their children Robert and wife Carolina and their daughter Sofia, Sean and wife Brooke, Thomas, Wesley, and Emileigh and husband Byron Aldridge; siblings Elaine Glenn, J. Wess Tribble, Rev. Nancy Summers, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by brothers William and Raymond Tribble, and by her husband of 60 years John L. Scogin.
Visitation was held at Seaside Funeral Home on June 12th. A musical celebration of her life was held at First United Methodist Church on June 13th. Burial followed at Seaside Memorial Park.
