He served in the United States Army in World War II from 1944-1946 in the Battle on the Rhine in Frankfurt, Germany.
He was a member of the Artemas Legion Post 155 where he held the position of Commander, treasurer, chaplain, and janitor.
He worked at Danville Saw Mill and was also a truck driver for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He also worked at Horton's Grocery store in Everett, Pa., as well Marshall Foor's Garage. He drove a school bus for the Everett School District and he also worked at Morral Brothers' Garage in Everett.
He attended Lebanon Church of Artemas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and A. Pearl (Tewell) Jay; and his wife, Margaret I. (Schetrompf) Jay.
He is survived by his two sons; four granddaughters; a great-grandson; three sisters; a brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.
