Professional Football Player. As a single-wing tailback and safety at Ohio State, Victor Felix Janowicz was an All-American and won the Heisman Trophy by an overwhelming vote in 1950 as a junior. He was drafted in the seventh round of the NFL draft by the Redskins in 1952. He served in the Army for a year and then was a baseball catcher for two seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1953 and 1954. He was a halfback for the Washington Redskins in 1954 and 1955 scoring a total of seven touchdowns. During training camp in 1956, he was injured in a car accident which ended his playing career. The accident left him with paralysis of the left side of his body, but he made a full recovery with rehabilitation. He became a broadcaster of Ohio State football games, an account executive with a manufacturing firm in Columbus, and ended his career as an administrative assistant to the state auditor. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1976. He died of cancer.
