Son of Rev. John and Mary (Hawke) (Thaxter) Hancock. Husband of Elizabeth (Lowell) Hancock.
Before living in Boston, Ebenezer lived in Braintree (now Quincy), Lexington, Bridgewater (now West Bridgewater), and Cambridge [while attending Harvard College (now University)].
Boston Latin Class of 1750. Harvard Class of 1760.
Married Elizabeth Lowell on June 7, 1767, the wedding officiated by Reverend Charles Chauncy.
During the Siege of Boston (1775-1776), he and his family lodged at Reverend Jonas Clarke's House in Lexington.
He was Keeper of the Powder House in Boston, Deputy Paymaster General for the Eastern Department of the Continental Army (June 24, 1776-June 10, 1779) during the American Revolution, Fire Warden, Inspector of the Massachusetts Mint, and Town Selectman.
Ebenezer was a member of the Massachusetts Charitable Fire Society, the Humane Society of Massachusetts, and the Massachusetts Society for Promoting Agriculture.
