Daughter of Thomas Howard Halbrook and Lillian Sibyl Groves

Wife, 40, killed in gun accident

Mrs Lilly P Madison, 40, was accidentally shot to death by her husband, George W Madison, 43, about 6:30 pm Saturday at their home at 105 Blenden Drive, North Little Rock, the police said.

Their son, Joe Madison, 16, and a neighbor, Jerry Davidson, 16, of 126 Glenden Drive, were in the room when it happened, Detective Sergeants Grady Yow and Carl Campbell said.

The weapon was a 16 gauge shotgun which Madison was getting ready to clean. He had been rabbit hunting during the afternoon with Joe and another son, Billy, 16, and was cleaning all three guns. Mrs. Madison was seated on a divan across the room.

The police said that Madison bent over and picked up the 16 gauge gun from the floor and that as he did, it went off, the charge striking Mrs Madison just below her throat. An Ellis Ambulance took her to the Arkansas Baptist Hospital but she was dead on arrival.

She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs Sybil Halbrook of North Little Rock. Funeral arrangements will be announced by North Little Rock Funeral Home.
