A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Julia Pearl Beaubouef Vermaelen at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2018, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Rev. Walter Ajero officiating. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Deville under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home.
A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held in the Kramer Chapel at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Julia Pearl Beaubouef Vermaelen was born on October 29, 1920 in Big Island, LA, and passed away peacefully on Friday, October 19, 2018, at Tioga Community Care Center, surrounded by her family, at the age of 97.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Louis Vermaelen, Sr.; daughter, Melba Herbst; infant great grandson, Elan Fontenot; her parents, Joseph Leonard and Maria Deville Beaubouef; and all of her brothers and sisters.
Julia was an amazing hard-working woman who loved God, her family, baseball, baking, gardening and reading. She retired from Central State Hospital in 1984 as a dietician supervisor. Julia was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Deville until moving to Pineville where she became a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother; her family was blessed to have her love, care and guidance for almost 98 years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Julia Ann McCann (Emra) of Baton Rouge, John Louis Vermaelen, Jr (Mary), of Libuse, Harry Vermaelen, Sr. (Mary Ann) of Pineville, Kathy Cole (Donald) of Pineville, and Debbie Rosier (Joe) of Pineville; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be her grandsons.
The family would like to thank the staff of Tioga Community Care and Heart of Hospice for all of the care and compassion given to Ms. Julia.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church at 600 Lakeview Street, Pineville, LA 71360; or to St. John the Baptist Cemetery at Post Office Box 7, Deville, LA 71328.
