U.S. Congressman. Moving to Pennsylvania, he attended Wyoming Seminary, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1866 and commenced to practice law in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was elected district attorney of the mayor’s court district in 1869 and served in the Pennsylvania State Senate, (1872-74). In 1875, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses, serving until 1879. After his term, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 50.
