She was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Henry to Anton and Ellen (Reismeyer) Appel. On Aug. 20, 1947, she married Floyd Mercer in Lacon.
He survives, along with one son, Lyle (Sherry) Mercer of Edelstein, Ill.; two daughters, Sharon Mercer of Chillicothe and Carol Mason of Princeton, Ill.; one grandson, Jacob Floyd Mercer; three granddaughters, Christie Laplanche, Jennifer Stewart and Renae Johnson; four great-grandsons, Avery, Zachary and Maxwell Stewart and Eliot Johnson; and five great-granddaughters, Chelsey and Rachelle Laplanche, Madeleine, Sophie and Lucy Johnson; and two brothers, Bernard (Bernadine) and James (Charlotte) Appel, both of Chillicothe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one brother and three sisters.
Kathryn was a cook for Sparland Grade and High Schools.
She also was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Lacon.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Henry.
