Politician. Lawrence Joseph Sarsfield Daly, a.k.a. Lar "America First" Daly, ran unsuccessfully about 30 times for a variety of political offices. These campaigns included running for governor of Illinois in 1956 and 1964, mayor of Chicago in 1959, 1963 and 1967, and in the 1960 elections for President of the United States. He also ran for senator from Illinois in 1962, 1966, 1970, and 1978, and for United States Representative in 1973. He ran for ward committeeman in 1932 and won but was disqualified when it was discovered he was underage for the office. He used section 315 of the Federal Communications Commission's "Equal Time Rule" to force radio and television news broadcasts to give him equal coverage during the 1960 Presidential campaign. After this, Congress amended the law so that broadcasters didn't always have to give equal time.
