Roman Catholic Cardinal. He was born in London as the eldest son of Thomas Weld and Mary Stanley. In 1796 he married Lucy Bridget Clifford who bore him one daughter, Mary Lucy. Lucy Bridget died in 1815 in Clifton, near Bristol. Three years after her death, he started his religious studies and was ordained in 1821 at Paris. He was elected titular bishop of Amiclea and was consecrated in 1826. Because of the illness of his daughter, he never went to his diocese but traveled to Rome. Pius VIII created him cardinal priest in March 1830 and he participated in the conclave in the same year. He was buried next to his daughter and her husband.
