The Crane family spent a few years in Hodgeman County. It was during that period that these two little ones were born and died. Their parents, Lewis Cass and Sarah Elizabeth Crane were natives of Indiana born in 1844 and 1849, respectively. On August 16, 1868, they were married. They raised sixteen children.
The 1880 US Census has the family living in Labette County, Kansas. Shortly after, they moved to Hodgeman County but returned to Labette County in 1893. Lewis died in 1915, and Sarah in 1944. They are buried in Lake Creek Union Cemetery in Labette County.
Note: Shortly after the beginning of the Civil War, Lewis enlisted in the Civil War in Co. A 15th IN Infantry. Pvt. Crane was wounded twice. First, a bullet in the shoulder and later in the hip. He was awarded a $14.00 per month pension.
