SLACK--JAMES LUTHER, 64, of Rossville, died Tuesday in a local hospital. A native of Athens, Tenn., he lived in Rossville most of his life. He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church and its Golden Age Group. He was retired from RDC and also worked serveral years at Chattanooga Glass Co.

He was a highly decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his father, A.E. Slack.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Slack; two daughters, Mrs. D.T. Hackney, Chattanooga, and Mrs. James Weatherford, San Diego, Calf.; mother, Mrs. A.E. Slack, Rossville; three sisters, Annie Lee Geyer and Thelma Slack, both of Rossville, and Abbie Jones, East Ridge, two brothers, Honest Abe Slack, Lexington, Ky, and Ransom Slack, Fort Oglethorpe, five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Harr officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
