Captain Robert Vallejo II of Richland Hills, Texas graduated from Brewer High School in 1998. He graduated from Texas Christian University in May of 2005 with a bachelor's of science degree in speech and communication. He was involved with Army ROTC while at TCU and took many classes in military science. Robert was accepted into flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama and learned to fly helicopters. In civilian life, he worked as a customer-relations manager for Pulte Homes. In 2005, Robert participated in the Bataan Memorial Death March, a marathon-length event in New Mexico that commemorates the forced march of American and Filipino prisoners of war by the Japanese through the jungles of the Philippines during World War II. From the time he was a teenager, Robert knew he wanted to be a pilot. He joined the National Guard in April 1999 and this was his first overseas assignment. He and his wife, Hillary were expecting a child in January 2009. After he arrived in Iraq, she told him that a sonogram had indicated that the baby they were expecting would be a girl. After he was killed, another sonogram revealed that the baby would be a boy. Robert died at age 28 when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter they were in went down in the vicinity of Tallil, Iraq. He was posthumously awarded the rank of Captain.
