Died, at the home of her son, James H. McConnell, in Evanston, Ill., Sunday morning, March 26, 1905, after a short illness, Mrs. General John McConnell, aged 74 years. Mrs. McConnell had been ill for about two weeks but her illness was not thought serious and Saturday she was apparently improved in condition and her death yesterday morning came as a shock to the members of the family.

Mrs. Elizabeth C. McConnell was born at Meridan, Conn., on March 10, 1831, and was the daughter of Samuel M. Parsons. At an early age she came to this state with her father, who settled at Chatham in this county and who conducted a merchantile establishment there for many years. She was married on Sept. 22, 1848, to John McConnell, who afterwards became one of the Union's most gallant soldiers. Mrs. McConnell was one of Illinois' bravest women during the civil war and there are few members of Illinois posts of the Grand Army of the Republic to-day who do not personally know and love Mrs. McConnell of Illinois.

Mrs. McConnell is survived by two sons, Judge Samuel P. McConnell of Chicago and James H. McConnell of Evanston. Judge McConnell was in New York at the time of his mother's death but left there yesterday for Chicago. The remains will be brought to this city for interment this week. IL State Register, Springfield, IL 3-27-1905
