Jared Gideon Platt was always referred to as Gideon or Giddie. The first census available after he was born was in 1900. That year Giddie was counted twice. The first time was on 5 June 1900. He was listed as Gideon Platt, and was at the home of his sister Jennie and her husband John Tennet at Slough, Limestone, Alabama. The second census was enumerated on 25 June 1900. He was listed as Giddie at the home of his parents Nancy Jane and Jerrod Platt in Huntsville, Madison, Alabama. In both census he was single, and working as a weaver of cloth.

Jerod Gideon "Giddie" Platt was born in Jackson, Sac Co., Iowa. the nearest Post Office at the time was Sac City. His parents were Jerrod Chauncey Platt and Nancy Jane DeCamp. He had six siblings: Elizabeth Marie Platt 1865–1938 she married Volney A Brown; Asa Osborn Platt 1867–1903; Jennie Platt 1879–1909, she married John Tenet; Raef Platt 1888; Ralph Bretton Platt 1889–1953; Margaret M Platt 1893–1933.

On Sept. 4, 1902 he married Mary Phoniah (Molly) Young at Huntsville, Madison, Alabama. Together they had 3 children Arthur W Platt 1905–1987; Annie M Platt 1908–1912 and Jennie Margarette Platt 1910–1988.

In the census year of 1910, he, his wife and 3 children were living on 32nt Street in the city of Denver, Colorado and working for the Gas Co.

The 1910 census revealed that his first 2 children were born in Tennessee. and the last one born in Colorado.

1912 was a sad year for Giddie and Molly. Their little 4 year old Annie May passed away She was the first of six members of the Platt family to be buried in the family plot at the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.

On Aug 15, 1911 Giddie lost his beloved 27 year old wife, Molly. He buried her next to his little daughter. Seven years later on April 25, 1918, Giddie joined his wife and daughter in death and was buried on the other side of his little girl at Block 58, Lot 18, Sec 7 of the Fairmount Cemetery.
