Ben Hirsch was actually born in 1898 rather than 1900 as stated on his grave marker. He was the son of immigrant parents from Munich, Germany, George and Margaret (Neideger) Hirsch. They settled in South Dakota. He moved to the Rio Grande Valley to farm. He married Frances Savage. They had seven children:

Ben passed away from complications with asthma. He was a hardworking, loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Veronica, who also died from complications with asthma.
Ben was my grandfather. He passed away when my mother, who was the oldest of the children, was 14 years old.
I named my oldest son after my Grandpa Ben.
