Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, at the Freedom Baptist Church, of which he was a member, by the Revs. Denvis Rush and Woodrow Woods.
Interment will follow in the Smith Cemetery at Sasser by the House Funeral Home.
A native of Clay County, Mr. Downey was born March 4, 1902 the son of Thomas and Nancy Curry Downey.
He was married to Betty Taylor and she with four daughters and three sons survive:
Georgia Parker, Hamilton;
Shirley Parsons, London;
Virgie Henson, Manchester;
Ovedia Jones, Big Creek; and
Gilbert, Charles D. and
Hurless Downey, all of Hima;
25 grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers and sisters:
Sallie Goines, Louisville;
Cordia Downey, Blue Hole, KY;
Dora Brumley, Hector, KY;
Ollie Smith, Blue Hole;
Tom Downey, Stamping Ground, KY;
Sudie Roberts, Pigeon Roost, KY.
