Pat was my mother. She fought hard, but lost a 3 year battle with breast cancer in 1992.
My mother and I didn't have a close relationship but that changed on the night she passed away. She waited for me to get there and then she stared straight into my eyes and I knew she was going to a better place. I told her "go ahead, Mama...we'll be ok. Go where there's no pain". And she did just that. Her very last breath brushed my cheek and I knew then that we had finally gotten to a place where we understood each other and everything else just faded away. I cherish those last few minutes and I know I'll see her again.
