Twila Mae, age 81, left this life on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, to be with her Lord. She had an unwavering faith that sustained her will in her battle with breast cancer. Born April 15, 1927, in Putnam, OK to Edward and Pearl Conley, Mae attended Putnam High School. In high school, she was active in basketball and later played on a Salvation Army women's team. She married her husband of 61 years, Ray Lloyd Porter, on May 13, 1947. In addition to homemaking, cooking and crocheting, she was her children's biggest sports fan. She retired from Southeast High School as cafeteria manager after 28 years of service. She loved traveling, visiting with friends and family, and her church. She was a member of South Lindsay Baptist Church Young at Heart Group and often helped with the Mobile Meals program. Twila was preceded in death by her parents son, Darrell Ray Porter brothers, Edgar, Raymond, and James Conley sisters, Alveta Noblett, Almeta Weeks, and Agnes Riker. She is survived by her husband, Ray Porter, and siblings, Doyle Conley, Maxine Harwell, and her twin, Gwyla Fae Wagner. She leaves four children, daughter, Patricia Lewis, sons, Jimmy, Eddy, and Denny Porter and their spouses two stepdaughters, Barbara Emerson and Joy Day nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The world has never known a more kind or loving person. She was the rock upon which her family was built and the mortar that held it together. We will miss you! Services will be held at South Lindsay Baptist Church in OKC, on Wed., Oct. 29, 2008, at 10:00 AM, with burial at Resthaven Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Odyssey House Inpatient Hospice Unit located at 13920 Quailbrook Dr., OKC. They are the most wonderful, loving and compassionate people in the world, and have been a real blessing to our family.
