David Wight Porter was born April 7, 1875, at Poterville Morgan county, Utah the son of Lyman Wight Porter and Catherine Emett. He moved to Auburn at the age of 15 with his mother where he resided for 18 years. He was married in 1895 to Sarah Ann Ashdown, a sister of Mrs Heman Hyde Jr and Mrs Florence Procter. They were the parents of eleven children, eight of whom still survive. His wife passed away in Auburn in April 1918.
Brother Porter and his family moved to Alpine in 1909, where they lived for about ten years, then moved to Poplar, Idaho. The last three years he had been living in Ririe, near his daughter, Ines and it was here his death occurred.
He is survived by four sons; Leon and Merl of Murray Utah; Ellis of Pioche, Nev; Lyman of Needles Calif. also four daughters; Mrs Ines Laughlin of Ririe, Idaho; Mrs Vella Ashment of Freedom, Mrs Hazel Sheriff of Lyndyl Utah and Mrs Thorma Beere of Kimberly, Nevada. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and one brother, M.H. Porter of Payson, Utah, and several half brothers and sisters.
His daughter, Alverta Dutson passed away three years ago and two children died in infancy.
Funeral services were held Oct 8, 1941, at the Auburn Ward with Bishop Lloyd Hyde presiding and Counselor Leslie Hillyard conducting. The following program was given:

Musical numbers given were a duet, "Jesus Lover of My Soul" by Ada Nelson and Glenda Hyde. Solo, "Silver Haired Daddy of Mine" by Dean Moser.
The speakers Brother William Walton, and F.N. Putnam, both spoke of their acquaintance and friendship with the deceased and the good qualities and high regard they had for him. Both mentioned the active part Brother Porter took in church activities, having worked in several ward organizations especially the Sunday school. Brother Putnam told of his outstanding powers of administration and how willingly he served whenever called.
The Choir sang "Beautiful Land" and Brother William Harrison offered the closing prayer.
Interment was in the Auburn cemetery with Carlyle Hyde dedicating the grave.
All of his children were present at the services except Lyman.
